It is preferred that Chefs must have at the very least a
certificate or even better a hospitality management degree.
Also, just because I was going to school, I was offered a paid
apprenticeship at the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego. The
F&B director visited the school, and talked with the
director, requesting some of his best students. So just
getting enrolled in a culinary school, or hospitality management
school will enable getting your foot in the door a lot
easier!!
